SCHOLARSHIPS

Segal Scholarship
The Joan Segal Scholarship recognizes 40+ years of service to UConn by our program’s founding Associate Director.  Joan began her career as a research assistant in the School of Dental Medicine where she was responsible for establishing its continuing education program.   After completing a Masters of Community Health, the forerunner to the MPH program, she remained with the program as administrator and instructor until retirement.  The Joan Segal Scholarship awards tuition support to students from underrepresented backgrounds who otherwise lack financial support to complete graduate education.  Individuals are recommended for the Segal Scholarship by the program director.

The Lewis/Schensul Fund for Global Health

These funds provide medical and public health students with financial support needed to participate in research and educational experiences in underserved communities, domestically or internationally. This fund recognizes the commitment and passion for global public health by program professors Judy Lewis and Stephen L. Schensul

FELLOWSHIPS, GRANTS AND COURSE ASSISTANT

Connecticut Department of Public Health Pipeline Fellowships

This support is reserved for up to seven incoming and current students and provides a 1-year tuition waiver ($17,532, in state and $39,444 out of state). Students from under-represented/under-resourced communities and those demonstrating financial need will be considered.

The Holger Hansen Fellowship
The Holger Hansen Fellowship honors our founding Director.  Over his 23 years of service to UConn, Dr. Hansen oversaw the transformation of a Master of Science in Community Health to our CEPH-accredited Master of Public Health in 1985.  Under his leadership over the next 19 years, the program has addressed an important demand among health related professionals of Connecticut and the region for population health curriculum and services.   The Hansen Fellowship provides a tuition waiver and annual stipend to support a student under the mentorship of program.  Individuals are nominated for the Hansen Fellowship by the admissions committee each year.

Crandall Fellowship

MPH Program Fund

These competitive funds provide incoming and current students small grant awards ($500-$1,000) to facilitate activities related to professional development (e.g., conference registration/travel, organizational membership, etc.).

M.P.H. Course Assistants

As many as 10 students each semester are recruited to serve as instructional assistants to faculty teaching our undergraduate and graduate foundational public health courses. Students selected for these roles earn $5,000 per course, per semester.
